Sillian: A City of Snow and Hikes in Southwestern Austria
Known primarily as a market town, Sillian, Austria is a city nestled at the foot of the mountain of Thurntaler. It is the birthplace of several famous figures, including the 15-century knight Blasius Hölzl and a renowned author Adam Purwalder. Sillian is a popular tourist destination, thanks to the numerous winter attractions and excellent hiking trails in the area.

June is easily one of the favorite months for traveling to Sillian, as this is when the weather is particularly ideal for mountain hiking. What to Do & Area Attractions
Sillian is packed with plenty of attractions to see, including the Goldried Cable Car and Golzentipp Ski Lift. Both are favorite sites in the area in the winter season. If you’re ever coming to the city in the summer, it is always a delight to visit the Heinfels Castle. It served as a base for the 2,000 soldiers led by Michael Gaismair, the spearhead of the German Peasants’ War in the early 1500s.
