Stationed in the heart of the Sauk Valley, 2 miles south of Sterling/Rockfalls, Illinois is the Whiteside County Airport (SQI), ageneral aviation airports designated to non-commercial air travel. The airport averages over several thousand take-offs and landings per year. The first SterlingMunicipal Airport opened in 1927 but closed in 1953. In 1956, it reopened and the name of the changed to Whiteside County Airport.

It is also the base to non-profit organizations within the area. It serves the aviation needs of private, corporate and government entities by providing a place for general aviation to Sterling and nearby places like Seatonville, Henry, and La Salle.
