It was originally a domestic airport that was later changed into an international one after its first flight to Singapore in August 2004. SRG Airport was originally a military base of the Armed Forces of Indonesia up until 1966. This is the same year when the airport started servicing domestic commercial flights while still accommodating flights for the military. A new terminal was added in 2014, a floating terminal and was officially opened in June 2018. The terminal is the only and the very first floating terminal in Indonesia.
