TemindungAirport – SRI
Temindung Airport was Samarinda’s airport from 1974 to 2018. It was a public airport that is located in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, Indonesia and has served the Samarinda area. Its airport code, SRI, stands for the East Kalimantan capital city’s name Samarinda. The airport started its operation since 1974 and had been home to cargo and passenger airlines such as Kaltim Airlines, Dirgantara Air Service and Kurakura Aviation. The airport had been a hindrance for some plans for high rise building constructions around its area due to clearance requirements for aircraft landings and take-offs. It also caused noise pollution to communities close to the area. This made Samarinda government to look for any place that could be the best relocation of the airport. Finally, district of Sungai Siring was found and Temindung Airport was closed and replaced by Aji Pangeran Tumenggung Pranoto International Airport effective 2018.
