Sharm El Sheikh International Airport is known as the third-busiest airport in Egypt. It is a major public airport that is located in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt and serves Sharm El Sheik area. Its airport code, SSH, stands for the city’s name Sharm El Sheik. The airport was opened in 1968 as Israeli Air Force base. In 1979, when Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty was signed, Israel turned-over the airport to Egypt. As of 2018, authorities have announced the opening of a base by EgyptAir Express at the airport that would increase the traffic and additional destinations.
