Taiping Aerodrome – TPG Taiping
Taiping Aerodrome (TPG) is an aerodrome located in Taiping, Malaysia. This aerodrome is also referred to as Tekah Airstrip or Airport and was built by the British in 1929, making it the oldest airstrip in the country. TPG became the first airfield in Perak and Peninsular Malaysia and is considered as one of Malaya’s earliest airports. In 2007, Taiping Aerodrome became the hub of Global Flying Hospitals but eventually moved its base to Subang Airport.
Best Time to Visit
TPG-Taiping Airport was considered the first airport in the Federated Malay States as well as in South East Asia. It served as a commercial airport for British officers and was used as an airstrip for the Royal Malaysian Air Force. In 1937, this airport gained fame when Amelia Earhart landed at Taiping during her world tour in between her flight from Thailand to Singapore.
