The airport, which has an IATA code of TSR, is owned and operated by the Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority. The TSR-Traian Vuia Airport is the backup airport for the air hubs of Belgrade, Budapest, and Bucharest. It first opened on 1964 as a domestic airport, and was upgraded into an international one in the 1980s.
