Zigong: The Salt City
Formed by the merging of two former towns of Gongjing and Ziliujing, is the city of Zigong, China. It is the third most extensive city in the Sichuan province. Nestled in the Sichuan Basin,the town is also noted for its brine extraction techniques and salt-related culture, hence the nickname “Salt City.” Zigong is a definite contender on being one of the most atmospheric teahouses in the province as well in the whole country.
Best Time to Visit
Between May and August is the best time to visit Zigong, China, since this period is more likely to experience pleasant weather, while March to October is the peak tourist season in town and Zigong, China hotels and other accommodations are swarming with tourists. In February, one of the most significant folk cultural activities in the city, the Dragon Lantern Festival takes place.

Start your day off in Zigong, China, by visiting the Zigong Salt Museum. It was established in 1959 and is the only one of its kind in the whole country. The museum’s exterior design features flying eaves a gilded wooden carved interior. It also houses the exhibits that cover the entire history of salt mining since the Han dynasty.
