Scholes International Airport– GLS Galveston
Situated three miles southwest of Galveston in Galveston County, Texas, Scholes International Airport has been around since 1931, when it started operating as Galveston Municipal Airport. It was re-designated a United States Army Air Corps base in 1942 during World War II, and took on the name of Galveston Army Air Field. It was deactivated by the federal government on November 15, 1945 and returned to the City of Galveston. It was renamed Sholes Field upon completion of its existing terminal in 1949, in honor of Airport Manager and aviation pioneer, Robert “Bob” Scholes. It is also identified by its airport code, GLS.

Scholes International Airport sits on 966 acres (391 hectares) of land and has two runways. The asphalt/concrete 14/32 is 6,000 x 150 feet, while the concrete 18/36 is 6,001 x 150 feet. GLS houses some of Galveston’s finest attractions such as Moody Gardens Theme Park, Schlitterbahn Water Park, and Moody Gardens Golf Course which are all just a few steps from the ramp. Named General Aviation Airport for 2018 by the Texas Department of Tourism, it is an ideal gateway for visitors to Houston, Seabrook, Pasadena, and Missouri City to name a few.
