Komaki Airport- NKM
The Nagoya Airfield, or much commonly called Komaki Airport, is a public airport serving the towns of Kasugai, Komaki, Toyoyama, and Nagoya, Japan, in the prefecture of Aichi. The airfield was once an international airport up until 2005 but now serves as a secondary domestic airport and an airbase. NKM-Nagoya Airfield is also home to the headquarters of Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation and the Aichi Museum of Flight. Komaki Airport was actually opened in 1944 and was used as a military airport under the name Kamake Airfield. When the Americans took over at the end of World War II, the airfield was reconstructed and renamed to Nagoya Air Base.
Best Time to Visit
Serving as a hub for the Fuji Dreams Airlines, NKM once served as one of the primary entryways to Japan between the 1980s to 1990s. However, when the Kansai International Airport was opened in 1994, the traffic at Nagoya Airport significantly decreased until only the automotive and manufacturing industries nearby became the primary traffic source at the airport. In 2015, the airport handled a total of 735,000 passengers and about 42,000 aircraft movement. If you’re coming to Nagoya, the best cities to visit are Terazu, Aisai, and Inabe.
