Best Time to Visit
The perfect time to visit Kumano is during the months of April through June, for the best weather. Peak tourist season is usually during the months of October, March, and May. Tourists are least likely to visit in July. One of the most exciting events in the city is Kumano Fireworks Festival, which is held every August 17. It offers a show of booming sound and flashing light, together with an incredible, beachside atmosphere at Shichiri Mihama Beach.
What to Do & Area Attractions
One of the most popular attractions nearby is Engetsu Island off the coast of Shirahama. It has a natural arch through which water passes. Another interesting, nearby site to visit is Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine in Tanabe, a Shinto shrine. It belongs to the Kumano Sanzan in the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the “Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range”. Its main deity is Kumano Gongen. It has pavilions known to be excellent examples of Japanese shrine architecture. Many Kumano hotels provide luxurious Japanese accommodation services at competitive rates.
