The Vilnius International Airport primarily serves Vilnius, Lithuania and its neighboring cities. Carrying the airport code of VNO, it is primary facility for the city where major airlines including the airBaltic, Wizz Air, and Austrian Airlines operate. There are also several seasonal flights to and from the city hosted by Onur Air, Blue Panorama Airlines, and others. Located just 5.9km to the south of the city, the facility is a state-owned service operated by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
Best Time to Visit
Built in 1954, the VNO-Vilnius International Airport started small with a standard Soviet terminal design. It was constructed with the intent of accommodating just 20 aircrafts on a daily basis. By 1993, a second building was added to the facility – allowing the initial construction to be dedicated solely for arrivals. The most recent upgrade was in 2008 when a new terminal building measuring 11,000 square feet was opened, drastically improving the airport’s passenger capacity, complete with duty-free shops, VIP lounge, and a business lounge. From here, you can easily visit Trakai, which is just 17 miles west of Vilnius and the quaint district of Nemėžis.
