Yap International Airport – YAP Yap
Yap International Airport (YAP) is located on the main island of Yap, Federal States of Micronesia. This international airport has commercial flights to Guam and occasional trips to the outer islands of Ulithi Atoll and Fais Island. The three airlines servicing Yap are United Airlines, Pacific Missionary Aviation, and Caroline Islands Air.
Most passengers traveling to this island arrive via United Airlines, which flies in three days a week. The only other option is to travel via sail. However, the boats are privately owned.
Best Time to Visit
Yap Airport serves the towns of Yap and Colonia including the Yapese residents, which refer to the indigenous people of Micronesia. This airport covers the main islands of Yap as well as its outlying parts. The Yap main islands include Marbaq, Maap, Rumung, and Gagil-Tamil. Meanwhile, the rest of the islands are divided into towns and municipalities including its constituent islands.
While the major international airport in Micronesia is located in Pohnpei, there are other minor international airports other than YAP including Chuuk International Airport (TKK). YAP services eight flights and four routes. The most popular destinations are Guam, Manila, Jakarta, and Airai.
