The airport is owned and operated by the Gary/Chicago Airport Authority. The National Plan on Integrated Airports System has classified the airport as a general aviation airport for 2011-2015. There are 25,228 aircraft operations in the airport in 2015. As of today, no airlines are serving commercial service at the airport.
