Gary/Chicago International Airport is situated three miles northwest of Gary’s downtown, in Indiana. It is a public-military airport that serves Chicago, Illinois. The airport is owned and operated by the Gary/Chicago Airport Authority. The National Plan on Integrated Airports System has classified the airport as a general aviation airport for 2011-2015. There are 25,228 aircraft operations in the airport in 2015. As of today, no airlines are serving commercial service at the airport.

Gary/Chicago International Airport covers a 309-hectare of land and stands in an elevation of 597-feet above mean sea level. It has two asphalt and concrete runway. An Army Aviation Support Facility that supports helicopter operations of the Indiana Army National Guard is housed at the airport. West Chicagois a few miles away from GYY airport and is a city in DuPage County. It has a lot of tourist attractions such as the Blackwell Forest Preserve and the First Division Museum at Cantigny.
